Thank you so much. I am so worried about our 6 baby nuthatches .. Their parents built their nest in one of our lanterns. They have to come and go from the top. The entrance is about 7 inches above the nest and about 1" square.. How will the babies get out? I built a shelf and put a blanket on it so the would not fall out onto the concrete below. We will be gone on day 20-27.. I can open the door on the side slightly incase they can not escape as fledglings .. But I don't want them to get cold either.. I will leave a shallow lid with water and a bowl of dried mealworms for them .. What do you think??? They are so precious. Any ideas or help would be appreciated .. I am writing because we are publishing the 3rd edition of the Handbook, and I would love to submit the 4th photo from the blog above to our editors (http://frombluebirdstoturtles.blogspot.com/2014/05/a-brown-headed-nuthatch-nest.html). Would you consider helping us by contributing the image for use in the Handbook and its web site? I'd be happy to give you a pdf of the entire Handbook in exchange.

To give you more information on this project, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (www.birds.cornell.edu) at Cornell University is a world leader in research, education and outreach, and conservation of birds. Our 3rd edition of the Handbook covers all major topics relating to the biology of birds, including their behavior, conservation, anatomy, physiology, ecology, and evolution. It will be an essential reference on birds and all aspects of their ecology, presented in a style accessible to nonscientist birdwatchers, college students, and teachers. In this edition, we also hope to speak to an international audience by using examples of bird species and data from around the world. The Handbook is being co-edited by Cornell Professors John Fitzpatrick, Walter Koenig, Irby Lovette, and David Winkler, and includes contributions authored by more than a dozen professional avian biologists.

If you are willing to consider this request, please send me your email address so that I may send you a License Agreement to review.
